‘Seek First’ … An Evening of Worship & Praise at Sheffield Cathedral

‘Seek First’ has been running for three years, and this year held on Saturday January 25th at Sheffield Cathedral, A non-denominational time of Worship, Bible readings and Prayer, and with Holy Communion with CoE liturgy and with a beautiful response from what felt to be everyone throughout the Cathedral. A very special time.

It was so good and so encouraging to be there at the beginning of 2025. With 500+ Christians from across the church denominations taking one of our largest Cathedrals close to its capacity.

We know the prayers that Jesus prayed to the Father, for his disciples, and that they should also know the same Unity that He and the Father had (John 17:11)

I certainly believe that the unity and oneness of believers together at the Cathedral on Saturday was tangible, and it reminded me of 1984, when privileged to be part of the National Initiative in Evangelism, and see all the denominations coming together during two weeks of mission, one across Nuneaton in Warwickshire where five hundred committed their lives to Christ, some for the first time and others afresh, followed by a week where we took many full size coaches to hear Dr Billy Graham share the Gospel at the Aston Villa ground in Birmingham.

There is without doubt a wind of change (John 3:8), and we are wise to fear the Lord with reverence, and to hold one another in prayer, remaining firmly grounded in the Scriptures, and believing in God’s power to Save souls.

It appears also very much that it is amongst the young people of today, many of whom are not interested in a denomination, but having an openness to the Good News of Jesus Christ.

May His Saving Grace keep us, and to His Glory, grow the body of Christ afresh.
